Atleast fourteen people and 22 cows were comfirmed dead in an accident that occured along Jega/Koko Road in Kebbi State.
It happened when a trailer carrying many passengers and animals mostly cows from Illela local government of Sokoto State on its way to Lagos collided with another truck that was reportedly parked by the roadside at Dada village of Besse local government area of the state.
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the incident.
In his words; “On December 12, at about 0530hrs, there was a fatal accident when a truck with Reg. No. SRZ 518 XS, Sokoto State, conveying passengers and cows from Illela LGA of Sokoto State to Lagos State, hit another truck parked by the road side at Dada village, Koko/Besse LGA of Kebbi State, 40 passengers had injuries in different parts of their bodies''.
“The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Magaji Kontagora rushed to the scene of the accident and moved the victims to the General Hospital, Koko, for medical attension, where 14 were comfirmed dead and the rest victims are recuperating, while twenty 22 cows were also comfirmed to be dead'' He prayed for the souls of the deceased to have peace in their graves and their relatives and families the fortitude to bear loss.
He also commiserated with the families of the victims, praying that they have the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The police commissioner called on the motorists to observe speed limit, shun ruthless driving at all times.
