Communities Affected by Banditry to be Given Special Attention - Katsina Govt

 


Government of Katsina State is conducting census of communities affected by bandits to provide psycho-social and economic support to the residents

The Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Bello Masari on Security Matters, Ibrahim Ahmad-Katsina said the rationale behind this gesture was to consolidate the victims affected by the act of banditry.

Ahmad said a committee headed by the state  Deputy Governor, Mannir Yakubu, was saddled with the responsibility undertaking the census of banditry-affected victims in the state to make ensure that the victims have not become psychologically traumatic.

“It is important to come up with a strong measure to help in carrying the banditry affected individuals along so that they do not feel vulnerable and change their perception of the situation’’.

 He said katsina state has adopted a very powerful measure to curb banditry across the state and victory is being recorded.

Ahmad-Katsina said that the new approach to tackling banditry adopted by government has been recording successes, adding that so far confidence was built in people to report any suspicious movement to relevant authorities for proper actions.

‘’The committee has found out that banditry wears different tricky faces and its discovery would in no small way reduce complexity of fighting the culprits in their hide outs,’’ he lamented.

Ahmad said so far the state government trained 1,100 h community vigilantes to assist their immediate communities who successfully caused a lot of bandits to surrender their weapons.
