The Northern Governors’ Wives’ Forum (NGWF) Established Recreational Center in Birnin Kebbi




The Northern Governors’ Wives’ Forum (NGWF) in Nigeria has established a leisure centre in Birnin Kebbi to take up the youths in frivolous activities.

 It is an attempt to restrain the peril of drug abuse among the youths.

The centre named ‘KAWARA Sports and Recreational Centre’ was intended for sporting activities like football, volleyball, handball and basketball and many more.

While inaugurating the venture governor, Atiku Bagudu commended the prescience of the group for supporting their husbands in building a better Nigeria.

He said that his wife, Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, has been so exceptional in the initiatives in Kebbi.

“Indeed, it was the preceding administration that constructed it, but government is a continues process, you do your own while others play their role.

“so, we thank her for being magnanimous, we thank her for attracting  the government to expend more fund  in making guarantee the centre is useable.

“But most importantly, we thank her for her initiative to ensure that this centre is being started in a creative self sustaining way.

“We also thank her for her management of the State Drug Control Committee.”

Bagudu said  that the drug dispute was neither a local nor a national challenge, ”but an global which needs collaboration and maintain to efficiently deal with the nuisance.”

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, also appreciated   Bagudu for providing    legislative structure, committees and task forces under-attack drug abuse.

“Today, we are here to merge on what the governor’s wife has been doing and add a mainstay to what her husband has been doing as it relates to the scrap  corruption in the state and country at large.

“Today’s program was expected to fight abuse of drugs in the state to reduce its prevalence which has been put to 11% to 15% in the state,” he said.

Hajiya Hadiza El-Rufa’i, wife of Kaduna state governor and Chairperson of the forum described their gathering in Kebbi as victorious.

She cherished the governor of Kebbi State for affirmating to the Child Rights Acts and Gender Based Violence Act, which was not easy looking at the nature of the local setting.

‘The signing of the Bill would allow for the prosecution of those that partake in abuse of women and children’s rights.

While appealing to the public to shun stigmatizing victims of abuse, the governor’s wife advised them to stop covering abuses.

She urged,”instead, they should report culprits to relevant authorities and follow it up to its logical conclusion.”

On her part, the host and the convener of the meeting, Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu said the NGWF was a forum where the governors’ wives join hands to back up their husbands, saying they have embarked on campaigns consisting of menstrual hygiene, women and youth empowerment and drug abuse.
