You have vital role in creating drug - free society - NDLEA Osun Command told religious leaders

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  Osun state branch has called on the religious leaders across the state to aware of their vital role in ensuring drug free society.

Agency’s Commander, Yomide Ogunbiyi during a church service to commemorate the 2022 World Drug Day at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Osogbo, said worship places remain important avenues of creating awareness on the negative effects of illicit drug use and smuggling.

He said the increasing rate of cases of drug abusers has become terribly irritating, because most of the cases were youth relative, thus shattering the national dream of having brighter and credible leaders in the future.

The commander said fighting the menace of drug abuse should be everyone’s business including the clerics across all religions.

NDLEA in Osun state confirmed the apprehension of about 224 persons from January and May this year with illicit drug use and trafficking, saying the command was poised to make un-usual footpath record in the history of the command, especially at the time that drug abuse was leading to having high rate of abnormal persons in the country.

Yomide Ogunbiyi advised Nigerians to be using generally satisfactory products like kola nuts, but with self-control.

In his remarks,Presiding Pastor of the church, Pastor Olusoji Wojuade, commended the NDLEA for its dogged fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
