At least 35 Cyclists were selected in the Nigeria’s Capital Abuja to represent the country in the second Africa Cup Track Cycling scheduled to take place from 17th July 2022 in Abuja.
According to the Cyclists Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Technical Director Bashir Muhammad, the Cyclists were screened from the elite and junior teams who camped in Abuja.
He said the screened and selected players have been undergoing rigorous guidance for close to 120 days to prepare them for the coming event in which they are expected to partake in numerous games during the championships in Nigeria.
Daily Reliable learnt that the highly scrutinized team would trigger at all the junior and elite stages for both gender, as they were categorized in to two age groups: 17 and 18 representing the junior and the Elites.
Muhammad said expressed how prepared his teams have been to utilize the home advantage, as Nigeria stands to be the host of about twenty nations who would participate in the championship competition.
Among the countries that would participate in the 11 medal events include Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, Togo, Rwanda, Tunisia, South Africa, Morocco, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Guinea, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda and Zimbabwe,.
It could be recalled that Nigeria played host to the first edition of the championship in the year 2019 and until the very last edition it won 51 medals including 21gold, 18 silver apart from 12 bronze.
