The president of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo, has debunked taking part in the diversion of Petroleum Products by its members in Nigeria.
He declared this on Wednesday, 20 July 2022 in Abuja before the House of Representatives special ad hoc committee investigating petroleum products subsidy regime in Nigeria from 2017 to the year 2021, testifying that this sort of allegation has been the tradition against their members whenever there was change in the business of petroleum product.
Mr Chinedu confirmed on the floor of the National Assembly that any member of their Association found wanting in the act of diverting the product is deemed a stack criminal, accusing some petrol depots in the country of selling the product at higher pump price than officially agreed N148 upon by Nigerian authorities.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Ahmad Wase, who represented the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila stressed that the sum of N6 trillion was said to have been expelled by federal government on oil subsidy last year.
He said the magnitude amount of money being set aside by Nigerian government in the name of oil subsidy made it obligatory for them to put more efforts in finding out the reality of what has been happening from the scratch in the oil sector in relation to fuel controversy which remained nagging at the time the world was under-going economic hardship.
The aim of the House committee was to capture the tentative data of all that transpired between all the stakeholders responsible in deciding the fate Nigerian oil sector, as disclosed by the committee chairman Ibrahim Aliyu.
Aliyu said the investigation involved both import-export of the product.
Also invited were the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Managing Director of AA Rano oil firm and other stakeholders in the making.
