NASS to Summon the Management of TCN over Recruitment misconduct

The Nigeria law makers have agreed to request the presence of the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to give an account of what transpired during the recruitment exercise that took place in the company which led to so many allegations of misconduct.

This was proportional to a undisputed approval of a motion by one of the law makers, in person of Rep. Preye Oseke from Bayelsa state during a plenary session today Wednesday, 20, July 2022.

The said controversial employment exercise was still on-going in the TCN and was aimed at recruiting about 400 new staff, who until the House of Representatives response to the matter where already considered for the new jobs.

Rep. Preye who hailed from Bayelsa state PDP branch complained that out of the said number of vacancies his state only managed to secure a very meaningless sits.

He said going by the high rate of unemployed youths, any act of unbalanced distribution of job opportunities could only lead to regional misunderstanding which will not auger well for the nursing democracy in Nigeria which happened to be a multi-ethical state.

According to him subscribing to the prejudiced process would contradict sections 14 (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution pertaining federal character standard agreed upon in the civil service across the country.

Section 318 (1) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution depicts Federal Character as ‘the unique aspiration of Nigerians to uphold national unity, promote national loyalty and allow citizen of Nigeria a sense of belonging as contained in section 14 (3) and (4) of the Constitution, this in all talked about fair and equal treatment to all.

The session in the national assembly was dominated by the issue of   unequal approach to Bayelsa people as insisted by the law maker as regards to the TCN recruitment and by implication the past ones.

Mr Nkem Abonta, also a law maker from Abia state said it was not only Bayelsa state that was maltreated and denied its fundamental rights in terms job opportunities, but his state and constituency were also involved.

He said a lot of lawmakers Service Matters, to summon  the Head of Service of the Federation and the Managing Director have been lodging their complain on similar issue of discrimination, which according to him should be thrashed once and for all as the unity of the country is the priority and its interest above all.

Deputy Speaker of the House Ahmed Wase has directed the Committees on Federal Character and Public of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for proper investigation.
