Names of Candidates to be Published for Scrutiny by Electorates in Nigeria -INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has reiterated its intension to make public the personal details of candidates selected by their respective political parties for 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections in all the constituencies across the nation.

The names are expected to be published on Friday as confirmed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu.

Yakubu was making this assertion while swearing in of a new Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Hale Longpet, today Thursday 21 of July 2022 at the INEC commission’s headquarters Abuja, calling on Nigerians to examine the particulars and crave the indulgence of relevant authorities for proper measures.

He said while the commission strives to organize things for the 2023 General Election on full force, making the names and particulars of selected aspirants extended to them by the political parties will help in taking the right decision of candidates.

Prof. Yakubu also appealed to all Nigerians to see this action as an opportunity for them to correct all the mistakes previously made in the electioneering processes.

Part of what the INEC wants reduced were the seasonal election cases in various courts which included both pre and post elections in which the commission took part in about 334 of them only in pre-2023 general election nation-wide.

Now that the general election is yet to be conducted, according to the INEC’s chairman a reasonable number of cases were filed against his commission beginning from the conduct of the congresses of parties to the nomination of aspirants and primaries against next year’s general elections.
