NIGERIA: FED. GOV. TO OVERHAUL NIGERIA'S MATERNAL HEALTH

 

The revised Maternal, Prenatal and Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) guidelines in Nigeria has been launched by the Federal Government.

Earlier a committee and Technical Working Group for the first Bi-Annual Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Adolescent and Elderly Health plus Nutrition were inaugurated to monitor and control the maternal issues.

Minister of health Dr Osagie Ehanire is the Chairman of the committees, said their aim is improving maternal, prenatal, and neonatal survival and  understanding the number and causes of deaths as health authorities are concerned about the occurrence if this, saying the program has been stretched to integrate child mortality audit.

He said a bill is currently awaiting Presidential acquiesce after being passed by the National Assembly, thus clued-up the launch of the program.

Chairman Senate Committee on Health, Chair, House Committee on Health, Commissioners of Health and Heads of Departments are among the members of the committee, apart from other stakeholders.

Dr Osagie Ehanire said a scrutiny of bottlenecks indicated a need to inspect the harmonization of architecture at strategic and technical levels and reposition the National Reproductive Health Technical Working Group to address the thematic areas of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights next to this scenery.

The Heath ministry said it was determined to ensure Nigerian women have   protected pregnancy, birth and other health issues, giving a guarantee that National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System NEMSAS will be launched and piloted in Abuja after developing policies and planned credentials to counter to the problem.

The world health body  WHO emphasizes the need for each maternal death to be ascertained and recognize the genesis, to establish a response to forestall future occurrence.
