ANTI DRUG AGENCY RECORDED SUCCESSES IN FIGHTING ILLICIT DRUG PEDDLING : GOMBE

 


The National Drugs Law Enforcements Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 277 persons allegedly connected with drugs racketeering in Gombe state.


Mrs Ekaete Egwunwoke, the state’s Coordinator of the Agency said the arrest took place within one year through several raids by their men, saying 16 out of the 277 suspects were female folks, while the remaining 261 are male.

This is happening  in the spirit to mark this year’s United Nation’s International Day Against unlawful Drug use slated to take place on Sunday 26th of June which will celebrated in Kumo Akko Local Government Area of Gombe.

The theme for this year’s day is ‘’ Addressing drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crisis”.The UN sets aside every 26th day of June every year to mark the International Day Against Illicit Drug.

Explaining what transpired in the Agency in the Gombe state, Mrs Egwunwoke said the arrest took place between  June last year through this year, expressing its achievement and victory in securing  about 22 convictions, awaiting   88 cases in  various courts and others in different rehabilitation centers across the state.

On his part Gombe state commissioner of health Dr  Habu Dahiru said the state is ready to scrap the problem illicit drug peddling and use.

United Nations member states mark June 26 of each year to review the procedures to brawl  the activities of drug users as well as asses triumph and other wise and possible ways to strengthen this campaign.

The health commissioner said success was recorded through a drug control panel saddled with the responsibility of check-mating the menace of drug usage.
