The Northern Governors Forum NGF has called for tranquil
following the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of
Education, Sokoto,for alleged blasphemy.
The chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau, Mr Simon
Lalong, made the appeal in a statement conveyed by his spokesperson, Makut
Macham in Jos.
He said the governors are concerned about the development describing
it as an extra-judicial measure of addressing perceived contravention.
The governors appeal for
calm following reports of the hijack of a peaceful protest which later turned
violent and led to the imposition of a embargo in Sokoto and its environs,
warning that any attempt to adopt self-help in addressing grievances whether
religious or otherwise, could lead to more disorder.
They strained the need for people from the northern part of the
country and Nigerian at large to show love, tolerance and respect for one
another irrespective of faith, ethnicity or other affiliations.
The Forum commiserated with Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over the
incident, while commending him for the proactive measures he adopted to re-establish
normalcy in Sokoto.
