NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT CALLED UPON TO IMPROVE DIARY FARMING

 

A University Done  and Dean in the  Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, Ile-Ife, Prof. Akinloye Farinde, has called on  the Federal Government to implement dairy policy that would give enabling environment for local dairy farmers to blossom.

He made the disclosure at the training on improving of breeding, production and the genetics of the animal in dairy value chain at the university.

.The training was prepared by the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation, with a theme “Strengthening Capacity for Institutional Staff &and Lead Women along the Doing Value Chain in South Western Nigeria.”

Those who Participated  at the training comprised farmers, technologists and extension workers from from different parts of the country.

Farinde said that such policy system must be active and operative in dairy value chain by assisting farmers in their production and marketing.

According to Prof. Akinloye the program comes  at the time  Nigeria needs enhancement on the production of milk for public use.

The training coordinator, Dr Bukola Oyebamiji, said this country  could produce sufficient milk for  export in the next five years with hands-on and consistent action plan in place.
