Nigeria’s President
Muhammadu Buhari has approved the pulling out of Nigeria from all international
basketball competitions for a time of two years with immediate effect.
The Minister of Youth
and Sports Development Sunday Dare confirmed this to journalists today in
Abuja.
Represented by the
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Ismaila Abubakar, Dare said a committee
would be set up to supervise basketball leagues nationally.
This is to concentrate
efforts by government in revamping the sport from the grassroots and domestic
leagues which have dilapidated.
Dare called on
stakeholders in the arena to maintain
and soothe the game, expressing obligation to the development of the sport of basketball
in Nigeria and the talented youths.
