The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos branch , has called
on the Federal Government to supply grains for feed production to improve the
rising costs of poultry feed meal.
The branch chairman of the association Godwin Egbebe, made
this call in Lagos while fielding
question from the newsmen yesterday Tuesday 9th of May, 2022.
He said to reduce the inflation of poultry produce, government should mediate by providing grains
to farmers as habitual, adding that the apex of Nigeria will intervene the sector
will improve.
Experts say the only way
out in ensuring stabilized cost of
poultry produce is by conceding local poultry farmers access to grains.
In the year 2020 there was the very first intervention prepared to
mitigate the effect on the poultry sector as the grains are dispersed squarely.
“However, the second intervention did not get to poultry
farmers, hence, the high cost of grains and subsequent rise in the cost of
poultry produce,” he said.
Mr Egbebe urged the government to address the issue of insecurity
which had condensed the farming of grain by the farmers which in turn gives
birth to cost of grains in the market.
